MikroTik Newsletter #2018-8, July 10, 2018

MikroTik Newsletter #2018-8, July 10, 2018
In this newsletter:- new CWDM products
– 60Ghz updates
– R5SHPn available============

We are adding products for CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology to our portfolio. The CWDM is a passive MUX/DEMUX unit, which allows to combine up to eight fiber links into one, to simplify and reduce the cost of long distance fiber installations. At the other location, the combined line is split back
up again, so that instead of eight long fiber lines, you would only need one.

Our product range includes following:
– CWDM-MUX8A=C2, 8-port CWDM MUX/DEMUX module (supports both SFP and SFP+, list price $359USD)
– CWDM-CHASSIS-2=C2, 1U Chassis bracket (can hold two CWDM-MUX8A=C2 units, list price $49USD)
– Eight different SFP CWDM modules (1.25G, Single Mode, 40km range, LC-connector DDM, range from 1470-1610nm, list price $49USD, same wavelength pair required for a link)
– Eight different SFP+ CWDM modules (10G, Single Mode, 10km range, LC-connector DDM, range from 1470-1610nm, list price $199USD, same wavelength pair required for a link)

============

We have made field tests on Point-to-Multipoint setup with wAP 60G AP as Base Station and LHGG 60 as CPE and were able to achieve 1Gbps full duplex speed on 700m link!

Now ordering one wAP 60G AP and four Wireless Wire Dish sets (each Wireless Wire Dish contains 2 x LHGG 60) allows you to create Point to Multipoint High Speed wireless network with AP and eight CPE’s on uncongested 60Ghz frequency for less than $1,000!

Currently up to 8 (eight) 60GHz CPE’s are supported by AP. We are working to increase this number further.

We are now busy shipping Wireless Wire Dish (RBLHGG-60adkit) sets. We have rock solid 1,500m links here in Latvia with full wire speed 1Gbps, that doesn’t drop even in heavy rain. Here is customer report on 1,470m link in Hawaii:

    In beginning of May  2021, a security research group from Belgium published a set of vulnerabilities they call "Frag Attacks" (from Fragmentation Attack), which affect all modern security protocols of Wi-Fi. Not all the published issues affect MikroTik products, but those that were found to be potentially affecting RouterOS, have…
  • Upgraded package signatures
    The RouterOS package signing procedure has been upgraded, to use new algorithms and utilize state of the art security hardware. It  will also add a possibility to verify the integrity of existing installations. • DNS cache poisoning vulnerability
    Tenable has identified a vulnerability in RouterOS DNS implementation. RouterOS 6.45.6 and below is vulnerable to unauthenticated remote DNS cache poisoning via Winbox. The router is impacted even when DNS is not enabled. One possible attack vector is via Winbox on port 8291 if this port is open to untrusted networks.…
  • Package validation and upgrade vulnerability
    Tenable has identified a couple of issues with RouterOS packaging and upgrade systems. The upgrade system used by RouterOS 6.45.5 and below is vulnerable to man in the middle attacks and insufficient package validation. An attacker can abuse these vulnerabilities to downgrade a router's installed RouterOS version, possibly lock the…

    Summary Netflix has identified several TCP networking vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel that is used in RouterOS. The vulnerabilities can trigger denial of service if the RouterOS system is attacked from an insufficiently protected network interface (port). Firewall can protect against the issue. MikroTik has already applied the necessary patches: fix included in…
  • CVE-2019-3981
    Summary Tenable has published a potential vulnerability in older RouterOS versions where an attacker can retrieve the password hash of a RouterOS username via a complex man-in-the-middle attack over port 8291. The attacker must be able to intercept a valid RouterOS user login attempt, so he must be located in the…
